Two Mules

Two Mules is the first in a series of publications by Rosa Glaessner Novak sharing small stories from the archives about art workers’ cultural production off the clock–in spare time, towards union organizing, when on strike, and for one another.

The booklet shares photographs and a text by Chicago area clay worker Charles Hinze, illustrating and describing a model he made of himself and the beloved mules that carried his clay cart in the early years of the twentieth century.

Hinze’s text is printed in three colors, each letter a dense sea of dots.
